Two parties and a trip to the ER
Sunday was a long day for us! We woke Adri up early (don’t hate us - we got her up at 8, and that’s early for her) so that we could put her down for a nap early so that she could enjoy the parties she was invited to that afternoon. (We’ve been going to our church’s Saturday night service for several months now.)
The first party was Kristen’s. We haven’t seen her since she was tiny. She was only a few months old when Ryan & Sherry moved to Colorado, so it’d been a long time. We keep up with her through their blog, but it was fun to actually see the birthday girl and her parents in person. We didn’t get to stay long, but Adri had a blast.
The big kids were playing badminton so Adri decided to give it a shot!
Here is Kristen, the birthday princess!
From there we drove a few miles over to Harrison’s house for his party. Adri was excited to see him and kept saying “Harrison!” (which sounds more like “Hay-son”). The plan was to have a wagon parade but because of the bad weather, we had to do it inside. It was still fun, though!
Here’s the handsome little birthday man…

When we got home Adri was a wild monkey. I guess between the snacks at both parties and the attention she got for three hours, she was out of control. We were playing around in our bedroom and she was being silly and kind of flopped herself down on the bed. We heard a pop and immediately she started screaming. Eventually we got her to calm down and she started acting okay. We checked her out and saw no swelling. She was using the hand that we thought was hurt (we thought it was her left wrist), so after talking with our pediatrician we decided to just keep a watch on it but not take her to an ER. Once she started warming up a bit, we put her in her high chair and noticed that she wouldn’t use her left arm. We kept trying to get her to grab something with it but she wouldn’t. Once she finally had to pick the arm up and use it she screamed. So at that point we decided to pack up and head to the hospital. Fortunately we only had to wait a few minutes when we got there. Adri was a trooper. Turns out her elbow was disconnected. All it took was a little bit of massaging to get it back in place and she was good to go. She cried for about 2 minutes after the doctor did that, but within 5 minutes she was her normal self, using her arm again as if nothing ever happened. In fact, the hardest she cried all day was when we left the room because she didn’t want to leave the toys she was playing with in there.
Here’s the big girl, posing with baby once she was all better.
After they got everything back in place, the doctor asked us to wait a few more minutes while they did paperwork and to make sure she was doing okay. We changed her into her pjs and let her play a little bit. As you can see in this video, it didn’t take long for her to get back to her normal crazy self. Keep in mind that this was maybe 10 minutes after she wouldn’t even move her left arm.
This is the life
The other day Adri was asking for the crayons while she was eating her after-nap snack. So here she is with her baby, her snack, and crayons. Seriously, I wish I could trade with her for just a day.
And here she is with her buddy and partner-in-crime, Mary Addison. I would show you the mess they made by covering the floor in all of the clothes that had been folded, but then all of you in cyberland would see how many clothes needed to be put away, and I would be embarrassed. So, suffice it to say, they made a mess. Ha!
“Huh? We didn’t do it!”
Baby Clothes Make No Sense
The outfit in this picture looks reasonable, right? Well the shirt is a 24-month size shirt. Adri is going on 15 months and wears mostly 12 month stuff. I got this shirt at a consignment sale on a 12 month rack, but realized they’d marked it wrong. They told me they did that because that brand runs really small. No big deal. But the shorts are 3-6 months! That is right, 3-6 months. How in the world can the same baby wear a 24-month shirt and a 3-6 month size shorts and they both fit? Granted, Adri is on the smaller end for babies her age, but it’s not like she’s tiny. I just want to know what 3-6 month old is the same size as my almost-15-month old?
This evening we had an early dinner, so we decided to go on a walk before it got dark. I went to change and told Josh that Adri would need a sweater or something to wrap up in because it was a little chilly outside. When I come out of the room, I find the poor child dressed like this:
Please take note of the sandals that are on the wrong feet as well as the Doodlebops sweatshirt (you may remember it from here), which he decided was just as good as a sweater (never mind the fact that it doesn’t match). The whole decor goes nicely with the jelly that she smeared in her hair at dinner.
The sad thing is, it wasn’t a bit surprising for me to find her that way. This is the same man who dressed my child to come visit me at work this summer in a onesie and bunny slippers. Now you’ve got to know that I am not a baby clothes connoisseur. 99 % of Adri’s clothes are hand-me-downs, have come from a consignment shop/sale, or were bought for her by someone else. However, I do think that it’s at least nice to have shoes on the right feet and to match. :) But to my husband, that’s an unreasonable request. Ha! Poor Adri.
Play time
Jon and Beth are in Greenville right now with Beth’s family, so on Friday, we met up with them, Jonathan & Kelley, and Lawson & Michelle along with their kids. The girls got together first to let the kids play and the guys joined us later for dinner. The last time all four kiddos were together was in August. Adri was just starting to sit up then, so it was fun to see them all together now that they can all truly play together. After hanging out at Beth’s parents’ house, we all went to Gattitown for dinner. Here are some pictures from our get together.
Kiran, Hudson, Adri, and Miller
Look how they’ve grown!
Adri wasn’t sure about the carousel at first but it didn’t take her long to warm up.
Sorry some of the pictures are bad quality. Here is one of Adri and Hudson in the monster truck. Hudson is driving and Adri is his date. Ha.
On Saturday, Mary Addison turned one! I think I’ve posted this before, but Adri absolutely loves Mary Addison. Sometimes Julie and Ed call her MAE (her initials), and that’s what Adri calls her. She talks about Mae all the time. She points to her when we pass the refrigerator, and calls every baby on the computer or tv or a magazine that remotely resembles her Mae. Sometimes she even wakes up saying her name, so I guess she even dreams about Mae. Needless to say, Adri had fun at her birthday party. We didn’t think to get a picture before Harrison left, but we did manage to get one of all of the girls.

Spring Break!
Josh’s spring break was a couple of weeks ago now (or maybe even three?), but sickness got in the way of me doing much updating on here. We spent the first half of the week at home and then on Wednesday headed up to Indy to visit Jennifer, Kevin, Colby, and Averi. Adri had a whole lot of fun playing with her cousins and has been talking about Averi ever since we’ve been home (by “talking about,” I mean saying her name a lot while carrying around her picture). On Friday and Saturday we left Adri with them and Josh and I made a quick 3 hour drive to Chicago. We were only there for one night - two full days - but it was such a nice little getaway for us. On Friday we took a guided tour all around the city, went to the top of Sears Tower, spent some time at Navy Pier, and got back to our hotel in time to take a little siesta before we had to get ready to go out that night. That evening we went to dinner and then to see Wicked, which was amazing and everything I’d hoped it would be. That was definitely the best date we’ve had in a really long time! Saturday was more laid back. We toured around ourselves for awhile and then met up with some friends before heading back to Indy.
Josh flew home on Sunday and then Adri and I drove back Tuesday. So many people asked if I was crazy for making that drive by myself, but she’s always been a good traveler and we’ve made the trip so many times that I wasn’t worried about it. Besides, I figured that I’d rather be on a long car ride than on a plane by myself with her, especially right now when she is wanting to walk everywhere. I can’t imagine that she would really sit still for that long. Anyway, I realized that the long drive was no big deal — it was the stops that made me crazy! Between trying to order food for myself and her, and wondering how the heck I was going to use the restroom while keeping her from peeking under and saying “hey!” to the people in the next stall (which she tried to do), the stops were much longer than I anticipated. I have a whole new respect for single moms or moms whose spouses travel a lot. I don’t intend to travel without Josh again for a long time! We made it home safe and sound, though.
We were home about a week and a half and then made the drive to Raleigh to visit Christi and Evan. It’s not a bad drive — about 3 1/2 hours — and we had a whole lot of fun, but I think we’re all ready to be finished with traveling for awhile. It seems like the go-go-go ended just in time for Josh to begin a May-June class that is going to completely consume our next two months. Fun, fun.
So, even though they are late, here are some pictures from our little retreat to Chicago. WordPress has updated some things so I’m not sure how to insert pictures they way I usually do, but you can still see them all here:

Rough Week
We haven’t posted in awhile because things have been a little chaotic in our home. During Josh’s spring break, we all went to Indianapolis to visit my sister and her family. Josh flew home on Sunday and Adri and I stayed a little longer since the following week was Colby’s spring break. The plan was to drive back on Wednesday but Monday night she had a terrible night. She’d been in the pack-n-play for 6 nights at that point, wasn’t eating well the whole trip, and was starting to get sick. So I said I’m done and we packed up Tuesday morning and drove home. On Wednesday she was starting to get sick, but by Thursday it was clearing up and I thought we were good. Unfortunately that afternoon it took a turn for the worst and she was really snotty and congested over the weekend. She started running a low grade fever but by Sunday it was getting pretty high. On Monday morning it got up to 104 so we took her to the doctor. She had an ear infection and her eyes looked terrible so they put her on augmentin. Tuesday was a little better and then Wednesday she wakes up covered in a nasty rash. So of course we go back to the doctor and find out that she’s allergic to amoxicillin. Yipee. So now we’re on a new medicine and the poor kid is still sick. Hopefully a few more days of this and she’ll start feeling better!
We had a great time on our trip and I plan to post pictures really soon.
Doodlebops!
A couple of months ago, our friends Lawson and Michelle asked us if we wanted to go with them to see the Doodlebops at the BiLo Center. At the time, we weren’t really even sure what the Doodlebops were, but this was just a week or two after Adri had been to see Sesame Street Live with her cousins. We figured since she liked it she would probably like the Doodlebops, too. We started recording it on our DVR so she could watch it from time to time. We wanted her to know who these people were! Over the course of a couple of months, she has come to love the Doodlebops. Her favorite is Moe, but I think it’s because that’s the only one whose name she can say.
A couple of weeks ago Andrea had a Doodlebops birthday party, and all of the party favors were Doodlebop-themed things. So, among other things, Adri got a Doodlebops sweatshirt with her name on it. Needless to say, she was decked out and ready for the show.
So yesterday we met up with Lawson, Michelle, and their little boy Hudson (he’s 9 months older than Adri) and all went to see the Doodlebops. It’s funny because 10 years ago this June the four of us graduated from high school together. We never would’ve imagined that this would be the way we’d be spending our time 10 years later. Ha. Regardless, it was a lot of fun because the kids really loved it.
Silly
Here are a couple of pictures of Adri in her Easter dress. She wore it to church on Saturday night and then we put it on her again on Easter Sunday when we got together with Josh’s family for dinner.
For her birthday, Andrea gave Adri a baby that came with two bottles, a hat, and a swaddler. The new baby hasn’t taken the place of Adri’s soft baby (that I’ve posted about before), but she definitely loves her. In the last week or two she has really gotten the hang of how to use the bottle. One day I found her feeding the bottle to Elmo and the baby.
